SPAR Covid-19 CEO Message
Dear colleagues and loyal SPAR customers,
SPAR’s family values and culture of caring and community underpin everything we do and, in times of crisis, these principles truly come to the fore. As the COVID-19 outbreak spreads, challenging everyone to act responsibly, we will endure by working together and abiding by our core principles.
The SPAR Group and the SPAR Guild have a duty to ensure our values are upheld and protected throughout the organisation. We have taken several proactive measures to ensure out staff, customers and suppliers stay safe, our stores clean and our supply chains working.
We are acutely aware of the important role we play in society, from the families who rely on us for their daily needs to the entire communities we serve. We cannot and will not let them down. We are confident that a healthy, bright future awaits if we keep working together. We remain wholly committed to those who rely on our sponsorships and, while the crisis has impacted many events, our focus is on providing the necessary support to ensure that these activities can resume in consultation with the various governing bodies.
This is not a time to panic and we commend President Cyril Ramaphosa and his government for their decisive response to date. We will continue to play our role as a responsible corporate citizen to ensure South Africa gets through this global emergency with limited risk.
We will continue to act in the best interests of all our stakeholders by ensuring our stocks are tightly monitored and replenished so that customers are served and get the same exceptional service they are accustomed to. All consumer concerns will be dealt with swiftly and we are committed to being fully transparent with our stakeholders. Our partners and stores have already implemented action plans to ensure our supply chain is stable and functions consistently – all in support of the communities we serve across Southern Africa.
This is a national emergency which cannot be taken lightly. We need to make sure that we respond quickly to any challenges which may arise.
In this unprecedented time, the need for solidarity and partnership has never been greater. At SPAR we are family, and together we will overcome this crisis by upholding our values and putting the interests of South Africa first.
